Beginner I: Acting for Theatre & Film
An ideal class for beginning students or actors with no formal training.
When: Wednesdays, February 5, 2025 – May 21, 2025, 6:30-8:30 PM
Where: 109 Market Street, Downtown — Studio 3
Tuition: $525
CLASS SIZE LIMITED TO 12 STUDENTS.
Over a 15-week period, you will work on a short scene as well as a monologue from established playwrights and screenwriters with an eye toward developing technique. This process will be built on the basics of the Stanislavski acting technique as well as the guideposts of Michael Shurtleff in his book, “Audition.” Some of the techniques include:
- Focus and imagination
- Use of the body
- Active listening
- Relationship
- The moment before
- Conflict: What the character is fighting for
This is not an on-camera class; however, students’ work may be recorded at the instructor’s discretion. Students will receive a syllabus at the first class as well as a written evaluation at the end of the semester.
Beginner II: Acting for Theatre & Film
Beginner II: Acting for Theatre & Film
Students will continue to develop their acting skills by working on more advanced Stanislavski training as well as a further exploration of the guideposts of Michael Shurtleff, building on what they learned in Beginner I Acting For Theatre and Film.
When: Tuesdays, February 4, 2025 – May 20, 2025, 6:30-830 PM.

CLASS SIZE LIMITED TO 12 STUDENTS.
Students will work on cold readings and advanced scenes from established playwrights and screenwriters and will work to stretch their range as an actor with a contrasting monologue, all with an eye towards further preparation for auditions.
The scenes and monologues will provide a helpful challenge for the students, to assist in advancing their training as actors and in developing a greater awareness of their unique qualities. Some of the techniques include:
- Detailed textual analysis
- Developing the ability to memorize and embody the text through Active Analysis
- Physical/emotional exploration of character
- Exploring the emotional journey of the character through the scene or monologue
- Finding variety in the work through communication and competition between characters
NOTES: Beginner I is a pre-requisite for this class. This is not an on-camera class; however, students’ work may be recorded at the discretion of the instructor. Students will receive a syllabus at the first class, as well as a written evaluation at the end of the semester.
